Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
TMC leader Biplab Sarkar was arrested by the police in connection with a milk adulteration racket uncovered in Hooghly district. The investigation began on April 13, following a complaint that chemicals were being mixed with milk and sold to local markets. Authorities launched an immediate raid at a hotel in Polba Hosanabad, where the adulterated milk was being processed. During the operation, three individuals were arrested on the spot, and later, another person was detained. Police have named seven individuals in the investigation, including Biplab Sarkar, who was arrested after the probe revealed his involvement.
The police recovered both the adulterated milk and the chemicals used in the contamination. Samples of the milk and chemicals were sent for laboratory testing. Five individuals have been arrested so far, and their interrogations have provided essential information for the ongoing investigation. The police have confirmed that they are working to track down the person believed to be the mastermind behind the racket, with plans to make further arrests as the investigation progresses.
Biplab Sarkar, who is associated with the TMC labor union, was taken into custody by the police on Thursday. He was later presented before the Chuchura court on Friday. Authorities have requested his custody for further questioning to understand the full scope of the operation. The police are continuing their efforts to gather more information on the scale of the adulteration network and identify all those involved.
The incident has triggered significant political repercussions in Hooghly. BJP leaders have strongly criticized the involvement of individuals linked to TMC in the illegal activity, particularly the adulteration of milk, which they claimed posed a health risk to children. The BJP has demanded stringent legal action against all those responsible. In response, TMC MLA Ashit Sarkar, who is reportedly close to Biplab Sarkar, emphasized that no one would be shielded if found guilty, stating that the law would take its course.
Local authorities have raised concerns about the impact of this milk adulteration operation on public health, especially considering that milk is a staple food for children. The police are focusing on ensuring that all individuals involved in the racket face legal consequences, and that additional measures are introduced to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
